Now, this was fun to draw! Maybe you recognized it already, but I have to say it again – I love the legend of Zelda! After playing 4 or 5 parts of the saga in the last two month and making some Pixel-Dungeons with MS Pain’ I had no choice than drawing my first compilation of Zelda bosses. I although finished the concept for my fan Zelda game with the title “Broken kingdom”. The Kingdom of Hyrule in my scenario will be split into three parts through dark magic and the single parts will fall under the control of three demon-brothers from something like a “dark dimension” (comparable to the shadow world of “Twilight Princess”). But let us come to the bosses of the eight dungeons I developed. They have really different characteristics and have to be slashed with although really different items! And here we go:
First line
“Ancient stone giant - Storax” – The first boss awaits Link in the dungeon “The King’s Mausoleum”, you can find the pixel art for this dungeon in my gallery. Storax is extremely huge, in the pic he maybe looks tiny, but he’s definitely not! Link found in the dungeon an item called “Jumping boots”, which allows him to, of course, jump really high. He has to jump on the legs and then up to the arms. Storax now will look at Link, fascinated that a human being is able to jump so high. Link now has to throw bombs into the big nostrils. If they explode, Storax will be paralyzed for a moment and Link can jump onto his head to hit two blue stones there with his swords. If that is done, Storax will lose his body and just float around with his head. Now Link must throw bombs into the mouth and then jump again on the head. The boss will be at its end, when the blue stone are crushed!
“Acid spitting bonefish – Barylar” – The second boss lives in a huge room in the dungeon “The Poisoned Tower” (although findable in my gallery!). Link got the item “Magic coat”, which allows him to run and swim through poisoned or acid areas. The boss is not that difficult. If he attacks Link, he just has to jump out of the poisoned water onto huge pillars at the side of the room. The aggressive enemy, blinded by rage, will sometimes ram on of these pillars and then faint for a few seconds. Link now has to hit the blue angle on Barylars head with his swords. After a three-round-fight this ugly fish will be finished!
“Merciless shadow assassin – Itupitur” – Hehe, nice name! This boss is a true master of sword fight! No question, that Link will need his sword to face him! But, what’s this? He can’t hit him, cause this guy is a shadow! Wait, no problem! Link now got the holy item “Light bow”, which will make it possible. If Itupitur loses his temper, he will open a red eye at his dark face. Link shoots a light arrow into this eye and then can cut the enemy! BTW the dungeon is called “Sword ruins” – and that definitely fits! After Link slashed the boss he will get the legendary Master sword!
“Masked swamp chimera – Olops” – After Link got the Master sword he has to find three holy woman which are the incarnated goddesses of Hyrule (Farore, Nayru and Din). But he can’t find them until he managed to solve the “Swamp labyrinth”. Cause he needs the lost item called “Holy hammer” *smile*. After he passed the labyrinth he has to face the scary Olops, a homage to the bosses from “Majoras Mask”. How to kill him? Use the hammer! Crush the mask with it and the weak “core” of the boss will arrive. Juicy and sliceable! After killing him, Link is now able to enter the barred temples where the holy women are captured.
Second Line
“Carnivorous scythe flower – Makahantis” – This beautiful boss is the final enemy of the dungeon “Farore’s Garden”, where the name giving woman Farore is captured. Link here finds the “Water scepter” which turns the dried out garden into a beautiful paradise. The boss is kind of difficult. Link has to fill special spots of the boss arena with water, so Makahantis (although a little dried out) jumps into them and sucks the water. Link can now hit the eyes of the plant with his sword, but has to be aware of the roots, leafs and scythes of the flower. After finishing the boss he can free Farore and the first part of the broken kingdom will be independent from darkness. But there is still more to do!
“Ice chunk swarm – Glirnara” – After Link has passed the dungeon “Nayru’s Palace” he has to smack down this really cool boss. Really cool! Fortunately the item he gets in this palace will be the “Fire scepter”. But this won’t make it a lot easier. Glirnara is a bad boss, cause it has the combined power of a dozen ice chunks with a big one in the background, controlling the smaller ones. They can freeze him, they can hit him with lasers from their eyes and slow down his movements with different lasers – until the big one falls down to crush Link! Fire! Fire! Fire! I can’t say it often enough! After this annoying fight, Link can free the second holy woman called Nayru.
“Gigantic death cloud – Plukus” – Now, this is a massive boss! The ball inside the clouds is an ancient weapon of mass destruction. This one can only be killed by the item in this dungeon. The dungeon is called “Din’s Volcano” and full of hot stuff and ancient mechanics. The item Link finds here is the “Thunder scepter”, the key to activate the old mechanics. Plukus can only be killed by overloading him with energy! Link has to fall through the clouds and to land on the iron ball. But this is not easy, cause there are cloud hands! Cloud hands! But Link is the master of disaster and he just does this job! Then he can free the third holy woman called Din.
Now, all parts of Hyrule are free from the evil demons. But what’s this? He gets captured by the lead demon and putted into another dungeon! And this dungeon is nothing else than a seal inside his own mind! The dungeon is called “Soul bastille” and cannot be solved by him. Eh . . . but, who will do it? There is just one person who can light the darkness: Princess Zelda! I did not forget her! She jumps via “mind mirror” into Links brain and solves the “dungeon”. At the end there is the most disgusting boss of all, which is something like a virus or gas or ghost or whatever is frightening. The bastard is called “Arkterias” – the little guy at the bottom is Link (not really good drawn and without his cap, but I don’t really care). Zelda smashes the “infection” with light arrows and some other magic stuff and frees the hero!
Phew! This was a long explanation. But, there are still the three evil demons Link has to fight . . . I will show them another time! Hope you like it, I had my fun! My favourite is . . . hm, hard to say, I think the third one called Itupitur. Which one do you prefer? Please comment and keep on watching!!!!
I just noticed Itupitur must me the 'Leader' of the Garo in MM. Their outifits seem quite similar and when Link makes it to Termina, their master is dead. So, Link killed Itupitur in the past and when Link puts on the Garo Mask, they get confused for a bit thinking their Master is still alive (Because Itupitur was the strongest swordsman there was until Link)
